USB drive for Software Reinstall with MacBook Air
A friend recently pointed me to these minimal USB drives that are now included in with your MacBook Air purchase. It came about from a conversation about the potential places that mac products may be going and if dropping the CD/DVD drives will even matter. How often do people use these drives now days? Are we all watching files that are streamed, watching movies on our computers, or streaming them via things like Apple TV? Do we only really need a dvd option to be able to re-install our operating system if / when things go wrong? Is no optical drive going to be an issue for anyone?
It will be interesting to see if this is something that they take to the other MacBook products, and how people react to it. Apple made the daring move to getting rid of floppy disk drives and it was seen as a bold move and then we all found other ways to transfer / store our data. Could this help in pushing more of us to “the cloud”, or is the cloud really not ready for us all? Either way, I think that little USB drive is really cool and would love to transfer the OS off of it and just use it for my data!
